Richmond Acker letter, 1862.

In this 1862 letter, Richmond Acker tells his sister about his experiences serving in the Confederate Army in Virginia. Of particular interest is Acker's description of military life in a Confederate camp and Confederate attitudes toward Union soldiers. He also details a failed attempt made by the Union army to capture eight Texas Rangers. Acker was a private in Hampton's Legion, South Carolina Infantry.
